European Diecast 1999-2008

1999

The GT1's don't get to party

This series dropped the GT1 class for 1999, and the cars formerly known as "GT2" (or now "GTS") were called simply "GT". They added a class for what the rest of the world calls "GT" as "N-GT". This proves for the 3,498th thime that the FIA could screw up anything.

2000

The FIA GT series intruduced weight penalties for winning cars, while this detracted from the "purity", it did seem to even up the competition a bit.

2003

FIA Sportscar Championship

This prototype-based series had modest grids and fan turnout. They held a 1000km event at Spa which attracted the most interest. The rules were not aligned with the A.C.O., so no automatic Le Mans berths were given.

2004

FIA GT showed impressive grids and good racing in 2004.

Prototypes were allowed in the newly-formed Le Mans Endurance Series. This was run to full A.C.O. rules, so teams we able to do real shakedowns for the 24 Hours. The only problem is that it defered some entries that would have made it to Sebring or Petit Le Mans.

Zytek

The excellent Zytek chassis provided some needed variety to the prototype scene by being a real competitor to the mighty Audi R8. The factory team scored impressive wins at Spa and Laguna Seca. (The latter in 'LEGO Star Wars' livery, no less) There are quality versions of these cars from both Spark (resin) and Ebbro (diecast).
